U.S. Attorney General
Janet Reno was born in Miami, Florida in 1938. She became attorney general of the United States (1993), the first woman to hold the office. A graduate of Harvard Law School (1963), she was assistant state's attorney (1973-76) and state's attorney (1978-93) for Dade County, Florida. Known for her attention to child abuse and children's rights cases, juvenile justice reform, and drug abuse cases, she was appointed U.S. attorney general by President Clinton in 1993.
