Wynton Marsalis was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1961. He early acquired a reputation for astounding technique and emerged as a leading jazz and classical player. His older brother, Branford Marsalis, born in New Orleans in 1960, is a brilliant jazz, rock, pop, and classical saxophonist and bandleader, known for his improvisations and technique.
